Taking charge of an abandoned child (KAFALA): documents to be prepared

The provisions of law 15.01 relating to the taking into care (KAFALA) of abandoned children allow couples wishing to ensure the KAFALA of a child to apply to the guardianship judge.

This request must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Birth certificates of both spouses ;
  • Legalised photocopies of the national identity cards of both spouses;
  • A photograph of each spouse;
  • Salary certificates for both spouses;
  • The anthropometric record (criminal record) of both spouses;
  • A legalized copy of the marriage certificate;
  • Two medical certificates;
  • The judgement declaring that the child in question is abandoned;
  • An extract from the child's birth certificate.

Moroccan couples of the Muslim faith living abroad may also apply for a child's KAFALA, in which case an enquiry will be commissioned by the Moroccan state and carried out by the state of residence in order to check that the required legal conditions have been met.
